Why American cows went mad ?

Did you know that American beef is banned in most countries in Europe. On January 1, 1989 the European Economic Community (EEC) placed a ban on hormone-treated U. S. meat, preventing U. S. meat products from being sold in any European nations. That was a long time ago. I am pretty sure back then growth hormones were not as prevalent as it is today. The more artificial growth hormones in beef, is the more weight the animal would gain. Since the cows meat is sold based on weight. Therefore more pounds equals more profit. Beef is the largest revenue source for American agriculture nationwide. As time progresses economic conditions become harsher. The dollar devalues and becomes scarce. What do farmers do? They try to increase the yeild per animal. So over time the cows get larger and larger. Then people who eat steaks gets larger and larger over time.

It is a known fact that American children experience puberty at a very early age compared to children from third world countries. It is also proven that girls who experience puberty at an early age are prone to develop breast cancer during there lifetime.i

The Hormones that are used ?

According to the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Veterinary Measures Relating to Public Health. The use of six natural and artificial growth hormones in beef production poses a potential risk to human health.ii These six hormones include three which are naturally occurring;

  1. Oestradiol
  2. Progesterone
  3. Testosterone

and three which are synthetic are;

  1. Zeranol
  2. Trenbolone
  3. Melengestrol

These hormonal chemicals are not destroyed by heat or any other method used to process the meats. When the meat of the medicated animal is eaten. The human stomach cannot break down these hormones. Therefore these hormones goes directly into the persons cardiac and endocrine system. Hormones are catalyst, meaning that they speed up or boost a certain chemical reaction or function in the body. The hormones in question boosts cell growth in the body. It tells the cells to absorb more fat, protein and water. As if boosting the natural levels of hormones in the cows is not enough. Scientist had to go into a lab and synthesize more hormones in order to get the cow to grow larger and faster. Whenever there are artificial growth hormones in beef, there are always some strange or unnatural results. These six hormones are just the start. Other hormones are added during the life of the cow based on the intended utilization of the cow.

Hormones in the milk

Dairy farmers are under pressure to increase the milk production per cow. This can be achieved by selective breeding. Also feeding the cows on specially grown corns instead of letting them graze. they would also have to expose the cows to periods of artificial bright light during the nights. All of these methods work, however the most efficient and effective method of increasing milk production is to inject the cow with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH). Guess what? It is a genetically engineered artificial growth hormone. This growth hormone can increase milk production by up to 40%. Cows injected with recombinant bovine growth hormone need more feed to produce milk. This hormone was developed and manufactured under the brand name Posalic® by Monsanto Corporation. The FDA approved Posalic® based on scientific research submitted to them from the Monsanto Corporation. In 1993, Monsanto Corporation conducted a research of recombinant bovine growth hormone on 30 rats in 90 days. Worst yet, the study was never published to the scientific arena for public scrutiny.iii There is no way a 30 day study could predict the long term or even short term effect of the hormones on cows and humans. The FDA continues to assure consumers that (rBGH) is safe for cows and humans, despite evidence to the contrary. In 1994, the FDA prohibited dairies from claiming there was any difference between milk from (rBGH) injected cows and milk produced without the artificial hormone.iv Monsanto continues to force the FDA to restrict the use of (rBGH) free labeling.

Cows that are injected with (rBGH) are malnourished and stress. This is because most of the nutrients that they eat are eventually lost in the body's production of milk. They also get less sleep. The longer they stay awake, the more milk they produce. The cows immune system is therefore compromised. There is scientific evidence to show that cows injected with (rBGH) have a shorter life span compared to other cows.v Mega dairy farms, those with more than 500 cattle, inject more (rBGH) into cows than medium and small herd farmers. 54% of large herd farmers use (rBGH), compared with 32% medium herd and 8% small herd farmers.vi Monsanto lists over 20 toxic side effects on its POSILAC label that (rBGH) has on cows.vii

Mad Cow Disease

Mad cow disease is a progressive neurological disorder otherwise known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). This disease can be transmitted from the cow to Human Beings. In humans, it is called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. It also functions as a neurological disorder in people. The Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is also associated with cannibalism in humans. Mad cow disease is 100% fatal in cows and humans within 3 months to 8 years after infection.iix

Know lets look at why the cows developed this disease. The precursors of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy are;

  1. stressful environments
  2. abnormal high levels of hormones
  3. Feeding the cows on dead animals
  4. high levels of antibiotics

The stressful environments that the cows encounter are penned up areas, constant light during the night. The high levels of hormones in the animals body causes the animal to become sick very easily. Then the cow is pumped up with a large amount of antibiotics. In order to have the cow live a bit longer. If one of these cows eventually dies, most likely from disease. That cow is then grounded up and fed to the other cows. Other animals that have died are also fed to the cows. Remember cows are grass eaters (herbivores). If you feed the cows on cows, they will go mad and die.

The causitive agent for mad cow disease is a modified form of a normal cell surface protein called prions. Prions are formed in dead or dying flesh. Thats why feedding the animals on dead flesh is the main reason for the epidemic. The cows intestinal tract is not able to process meat. So the cows will get sick one way or the other. this will result in human beings that eat these cows becoming sick also.ix

So remember, the next time you eat a burger. Your eating an insane burger.

Scary thoughts, now if it (meat and other products from the USA)are banned from other nations why in the world would we Americans want to eat that...

Help fight back.

Respect Flickr, Beef is a pretty scary meat, I will help to support the petition against GMO foods.
